 The microchip shortage has struck the Detroit plant in which the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs are built, where workers received temporary layoff notices. More at The Detroit News. 

+   Tesla Inc. came under increased pressure from regulators and state media in China after a protest by an owner at the Shanghai auto show about her vehicle’s brake system. More at Reuters. 

 At a virtual climate summit for 40 world leaders, President Joe Biden committed the United States to cutting its greenhouse gas emissions by 52 percent by the year 2030. More at Autoblog. 

 Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials announced that 135,000 spectators will be admitted to the Indy 500 this year, which represents 40 percent of normal race-day capacity. More at Racer. 

 Cadillac will have the $60,000 Lyriq electric crossover in showrooms early next year, marking the beginning of the end for the luxury car maker in the gasoline vehicle business. More at CNBC. 

 The annual Detroit Autorama, one of America’s leading indoor custom car shows, has been cancelled only days before the event due to the COVID-19 upsurge in Michigan. More at MLive. 

 The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) will open a second SEMA Garage facility in Southeast Michigan to offer technical resources to member companies. More at Hemmings Daily. 

+   Chevrolet will open orders on the 2022 C8 Corvette in July with minor mechanical changes and three additional new colors: Amplify Orange, Caffeine, and Hypersonic Gray. More at Car and Driver. 

 Ford’s 2021 Mustang Mach-E narrowly missed a Top Safety Pick Plus award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), instead earning a Top Safety Pick rating. More at Motor Trend. 

Jennifer Jo Cobb, a NASCAR Truck Series veteran with 217 starts, was denied entry to what would would have been her first Cup race at Talladega by NASCAR officials. More at Fox Sports.

  1. This is a historic moment. There will be no more new gasoline models from Cadillac. We’re in a brave new world.

    • Yeah, the start of the end of Cadillac and GM. The lack of choice of EV or ICE will push buyers too look elsewhere if that personal choice is ICE. EV’s will be fine for those in the city/metro areas, but the lack of common design quick recharge stations will severely limit sales to rural areas. How many housewives with hurried schedules are going to want to drive to the one or two charging stations in town and then sit for a hour or two for a recharge? Not many I would think. EV looks good on paper and a computer screen, but it’s not ready to replace the good ole ICE just yet. Maybe someday, but not yet…
