+   Propelled by strong demand in China, Tesla delivered a record 184,000 cars in 1Q 2021, smashing analysts’ projections and topping the previous mark by 4,000 units. More at The Detroit News. 

 John Krafcik, the head of Alphabet Inc.’s Waymo self-driving car division, is stepping down after more than five years at the post and will be replaced by a pair of co-CEOs. More at Reuters. 

 The 2024 GMC Hummer EV will be available in 2023 with the fully loaded Edition 1 SUV priced at $105,595 arriving first, followed by more affordable downmarket versions. More at Car and Driver. 

+   Drivers Johan Kristoffersson and Molly Taylor of Nico Rosberg’s Rosberg X Racing were the winners of the inaugural Extreme E electric off-road race in Al’Ula, Saudi Arabia. More at Racer. 

+   A 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS with $250,000 in extras originally owned by comedian Jerry Seinfeld  will be offered at the Bonhams Supercars on Sunset auction later this month. More at Autoblog. 

+   Sales of Ford’s electrified vehicles spiked 74 percent to nearly 26,000 in the first quarter of 2021 due to strong demand for the F-150 hybrid and the Mustang Mach-E. More at The Drive. 

 Zeigler Auto Group, a dealer chain with headquarters in Kalamazoo, has been ordered to pay 214 employees a total of $85,111 in minimum wages and overtime pay. More at the Detroit Free Press.

 The Mecum Auctions Gone Farmin’ sale in Davenport, Iowa generated more than $8.4 million in sales, led by a 1915 Wallis Cub D tractor that brought a record $231,000. More at Classic Cars.com Journal. 

+   Five 2021 Volvo models have been awarded the the Top Safety Pick Plus award, the top crash safety rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). More at CNET Roadshow. 

+   Series officials were encouraged while Cup drivers Kyle Larson and Chris Buescher gave positive reactions to NASCAR’s two-day test of rain tires on the Martinsville oval. More at Fox Sports.
