  With backing from the major automakers, President Joe Biden signed an executive order aimed at making half the new vehicles sold in the USA in 2030 zero-emissions models. More at Reuters. 

+   Organizers of the New York International Automobile Show canceled the event due to increasing COVID-19 concerns just two weeks before the scheduled opening. More at The Detroit News. 

 Subaru is recalling 165,000 vehicles from the 2018 through 2020 model years to correct a potential defect in the in-tank electric fuel pump that could cause engine stalling. More at Autoblog. 

 Nine-time world motorcycle champion Valentino Rossi announced that he will retire from MotoGP at the end of the year, and he will now set his sights on auto racing for 2022. More at Motor Sport. 

 Ford Motor Co. is offering buyouts to around 1,000 salaried employees in selected disciplines in 2021 to better align the company’s priorities, the company confirmed. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

+   Stellantis has announced electrification plans for a number of its brands, with a Jeep EV due in 2023, a Dodge hybrid in 2022, and an all-electric Alfa Romeo lineup by 2027. More at Car and Driver.

 Patent filings by Mazda in Japan suggest that the automaker is developing a halo sports car with an aluminum space frame that looks similar to its 2015 RX-Vision concept. More at The Drive. 

 Trackhouse Racing announced that Ross Chastain will drive the team’s no. 1 Chevy Camaro in NASCAR Cup next year, teamed with current Trackhouse driver Daniel Suarez. More at Jayski. 

+   Mecum Auctions reported an 80 percent sell-through rate and $35 million in total sales, led by a Boss 429 Mustang and a 1962 Corvette restomod, at its first Orlando sale. More at ClassicCars.com Journal.
