 Continuing its cost cutting, Daimler is slimming down its Mercedes management team as the parent company takes tighter control over the luxury car division. More at Automotive News Europe. 

 Veteran NASCAR driver Ryan Newman was released from the hospital two days after a harrowing crash in the Daytona 500 in which he had to be cut from the car. More at CNN. 

+   Hyundai’s Genesis luxury brand is working on a shooting brake or station wagon version of the G70 sedan and it could go into production, CEO William Lee confirmed. More at Car and Driver. 

+   The Mercedes Formula 1 team asserts that series officials are familiar with its new dual-axis steering system and is confident that the innovation is within the rules. More at BBC Sport. 

 Only one domestic model, the Tesla Model 3, was named tops in its price category in the annual Consumer Reports top picks list, and no U.S. brands made the top 20. More at The Detroit News. 

+   Owen Bieber, who served four terms as president of the United Auto Workers from 1983 to 1995 and fought against apartheid in South Africa, has passed away at 90. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

+   The second annual Mecum auction in Glendale, Arizona on March 11-14 will feature 1,500 collector vehicles, a selection of vintage guitars, and a food and music festival. More at Classic Cars.com Journal. 

 Organizers of the Beijing Motor Show announced they are postponing their event, originally scheduled for April 21-30, due to the coronavirus outbreak in China. More at Autoweek. 

+   Aston Martin announced it will not participate in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s hypercar class in 2020, casting doubt on the category’s future. More at Motorport.com. 

+  Honda executives Ko Yamamoto and Hideki Kakinuma say the Japanese automaker has no plans to produce a performance R version of the Acura NSX sports car. More at Road & Track.
