+   In a U.S. government filing, Ford Motor Company disclosed that it will take a $2.2 billion hit in the fourth quarter to cover increased employee retirement costs. More at CNBC.

+   Cadillac’s high-performance CT5-V sedan will be powered by the 6.2L supercharged V8 previously used in the CTS-V, reportedly, as the latest twin-turbo Blackwing V8 will not fit. More at Car and Driver. 

+   Daimler announced it plans to build 50,000 Mercedes EQC electric cars this year, denying a report in Manager Magazin of production cuts caused by a battery shortage. More at Reuters.

 The field is set for this weekend’s Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona with Oliver Jarvis taking the pole for the second straight year in the Mazda RT24P prototype. More at Motorsport.com. 

 The merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group of France will bring 13 vehicle brands under one banner, threatening the future of the Chrysler brand. More at The Detroit News. 

 Deposed Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn, who fled to Lebanon to escape prosecution in Japan, has predicted that the automaker will go bankrupt by 2022. More at The Drive. 

 Chevrolet is cutting its dealer allocations of 2020 C8 Corvettes by 20 percent due to the lingering effects of last autumn’s six-week-long United Auto Workers strike. More at Autoblog. 

+   In Tokyo, Subaru unveiled an electric crossover concept slated for production in 2025 that bears more than a passing resemblance to the Tesla Cybertruck. More at Autoweek.

+   Seven historic Bugattis will be among the featured attractions at the Bonhams Les Grandes Marques du Monde Sale at the Grand Palais in Paris on February 7. More at The Speed Journal. 

+   Driver Charlie Kimball, son of F1 and IndyCar designer Gordon Kimball, and sponsor Novo Nordisk will move to AJ Foyt Racing for the 2020 IndyCar season. More at ESPN.
