 General Motors will discontinue the subcompact Chevrolet Sonic to free up production capacity at the Lake Orion, Michigan plant for the Chevy Bolt electric vehicle. More at Car and Driver. 

+   Ford may have to shut down some U.S. car plants next week due to a lack of engines from Chihuahua, Mexico, where production is limited by COVID-19 concerns. More at Reuters. 

 A 2021 Honda CIvic Type R set a lap record for front-wheel drive production vehicles at Suzuka in Japan, lapping the Formula 1 course more quickly than a Ferrari F40. More at The Drive. 

+   NASCAR’s All-Star event in Bristol will feature undercar “underglow” lighting to illuminate the cars that have already clinched a starting spot in the All-Star feature. More at NBC Spots 

+   A federal district judge has dismissed with prejudice the General Motors racketeering lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles over union-company corruption. More at The Detroit News.  

+   Aston Martin has started production of the 2020 DBX, a luxury SUV that company executives hope will revive the fortunes of the historic British sports car maker. More at Autoblog.  

 Industry watchers say the new Toyota Corolla Cross compact crossover, based on the TNGA-C platform and recently introduced in Thailand, is likely headed to the USA. More at CNET Roadshow. 

+   Lamborghini has unveiled the new 2021 Sian roadster, featuring a supercapacitor hybrid rivetrain with 819 hp and production run of 19 cars, all spoken for. More at Engadget.

+   Around 100 employees at Ford have asked the automaker to reconsider marketing police vehicles in light of recent controversies about police brutality and social justice. More at the Detroit Free Press.  

 Departing Ferrari Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel revealed he would like to return to Red Bull Racing next season, while also disclosing he held initial talks with Renault. More at Racer.
