+  General Motors has formed a joint venture with another firm to extract lithium from the Salton Sea in California, securing a domestic supply of the mineral for vehicle batteries. More at The Detroit News. 

 According to a study by iSeeCars.com, 16 vehicle models are now selling on the U.S. used market for more than their retail list price due to the current new vehicle shortage. More at Autoblog. 

 Shares in Ohio-based electric truck startup Lordstown Motors plummeted following reports that the Department of Justice is investigating the embattled auto company. More at CNBC. 

+   The Mercedes Formula 1 team has signed driver Lewis Hamilton to another two-year contract, securing the services of the seven-time driving champion through 2023. More at Sky Sports. 

 Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson has suggested that the Swedish automaker could be shifting from its current alphanumeric model designations to actual model names. More at CNET Roadshow. 

+   Ford Motor Co. confirmed that the battery-electric 2021 Mustang Mach-E outsold its traditional gasoline-powered Mustang counterpart last month, 2,465 units to 2,240. More at The Drive. 

 Tesla delivered more than 201,000 vehicles in the second quarter of 2021, mildly exceeding the analysts’ projections and overcoming the global microchip shortage. More at Reuters. 

+   Featured consignments at the Bonhams Goodwood sale on July 9 will include a trio  of vintage Italian race cars with noteworthy backgrounds and a pair of Aston Martin DB5s. More at Classic Cars.com Journal. 

 The Concours of America, now owned by Hagerty, will be moved from its July date at the Inn at St. Johns in Plymouth, Michigan to the Detroit Institute of Arts in September of 2022. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

 Female Formula 1 test driver Tatiana Calderón of Columbia will test an IndyCar for the first time with A.J. Foyt Racing later this week at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. More at IndyStar.
