 According to the annual Consumer Reports rankings, the five worst automobile brands on the U.S. market in 2024 are Rivian, GMC, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Jeep. More at Autoblog

+   Apple is scuttling its secretive, long-running effort to build an autonomous electric car, executives announced in a short meeting with the vehicle development team this week. More at TechCrunch. 

+   While upcoming Dodge and Jeep EVs will use batteries from Samsung SDI, CEO Carlos Tavares says Stellantis must learn how to manufacture its own batteries and components. More at Car and Driver. 

+   Penske Entertainment says it will approach its future racing schedules for the IndyCar series with an emphasis on entering new markets that lean heavily on street racing. More at Racer. 

 Shares in EV startup Fisker fell 28 percent after the company missed its quarterly revenue projections and warned investors it may not be able to continue as a going concern. More at Reuters. 

+   A majority of hourly workers at Mercedes-Benz’s largest plant in the United States have signed authorization cards for United Auto Workers representation, the union reported. More at The Detroit News. 

 Bugatti anounced that its replacement for the Chiron hypercar, to be unveiled in June, will be powered by a V16 combined with a hybrid package from parent firm Rimac. More at Motor Authority. 

 A meticulously restored 1953 Corvette, one of the first 100 Corvettes ever produced, will be offered by Carlisle Auctions at its annual sale at Spring Carlisle on April 17-21. More at Old Cars. 

 EV giant BYD of China is escalating its price war with other EV producers in its home market with new, lower-priced versions of its Han sedans and Tang SUVs. More at World Auto Forum. 

 Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull Formula 1, has been cleared of allegations of improper behavior by a female colleague following an internal investigation. More at BBC Sport.

  1. The Corvette is beautifully restored but you must love early Corvettes or they are no fun. They are not pleasant to drive.

    • The UAW is going to find that all new OEM plants will now be constructed outside the USA, and that all new models to come (primarily electric) will be made in those foreign plants. The UAW is committing slow suicide as they are proving to be no longer sustainable.
