+   General Motors will hire 3,000 engineers, designers, and information technology professionals to speed up its development of electric and self-driving vehicles. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

 According to one Mazda source, the automaker will drop its Mazdaspeed performance model line in order to focus its image as a premium luxury brand. More at CNET Roadshow. 

 Ford CEO Jim Farley says the company’s newly launched E-Transit work van, part of an $11.5 billion investment in electric vehicle development, is “a big deal for us.” More at CNBC. 

 NASCAR announced that testing of the Next Gen stock car for the 2022 Cup Series is scheduled next week at Charlotte Motor Speedway with two different prototypes. More at Jayski. 

+   German carmaker Volkswagen will invest $233.5 million in a new production line to build the EA211 global four-cylinder engine at its Guanajuato plant in central Mexico. More at Reuters. 

 The lightweight electric Lotus SUV, currently codenamed the Lambda, could boast  750 horsepower and 360 miles in range when it makes its debut sometime in 2022. More at The Drive. 

 For the second time in a week, General Motors cancelled overtime production at its Arlington, Texas full-size SUV plant due to parts shortages related to COVID-19. More at The Detroit News. 

 Rivian has set the list price of its Launch Edition R1T electric pickup at $75,000 while the Launch Edition R1S SUV will be priced slightly higher at $77,750. More at Car and Driver.

+   A new exhibit titled “Detroit Style: Car Design in the Motor City, 1950-2020” will run from November 15 through June 27, 2021 at the Detroit Institute of Arts. More at Classic Cars.com Journal. 

 Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says the 23-race Formula 1 calendar for 2021 is “on the limit of human tolerance” as the schedule continues to expand. More at Racer.

  1. I still don’t understand the rush to electric vehicles. You hear all about all the engineering being put into them, but nothing about upgrading the infrastructure that will be required to charge all of them. Kinda putting the cart before the horse IMHO. Without a substantial overhaul of the electric grid, these electrics will be useless in a lot of areas.

  2. Is that pic the front or rear? Butt ugly whichever way.
    Along with Elons dumb truck they seem to be going out of there way not to sell cars.
