Today’s Headlines:

  Despite the microchip shortage, Tesla delivered a company-record 241,300 electric vehicles in the third quarter of 2021, blowing past the estimates of Wall Street analysts. More at CNBC.

 General Motors reported a 33 percent decline in third-quarter sales versus last year  while Stellantis reported a 19 percent drop, with both companies citing the microchip shortage. More at The Detroit News. .

+   Shareholders in Daimler AG approved plans to spin off its truck manufacturing operations, clearing the way for a public share listing for Daimler Truck by the end of the year. More at MarketWatch. 

+   Former NASCAR truck series and Xfinity driver John Wes Townley, 31, was shot and killed in Athens, Georgia in what local authorities describe as a domestic violence incident. More at Yahoo! Sports. 

+   The Lotus Emira V6 First Edition arriving in U.S showrooms early in 2022 will be priced at around $93,900, while a four-cylinder Emira base model in 2023 will list at $74,900. More at Autoblog. 

+   In its filings for an initial public offering, electric truck maker Rivian disclosed that it plans to manufacture its own battery cells as part of an $8 billion facilities investment plan. More at Reuters. 

 Waymo and Cruise are the first companies to be granted permission by the California Department of Motor Vehicles to carry passengers in driverless vehicles. More at CNET Roadshow. 

+   A new exhibit at the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles called Bond in Motion that features 30 vehicles used in 60 years of 007 films will run through October of 2022. More at Car and Driver. 

 Sergio Pasini, a Stellantis manager charged in the diesel emissions case involving Jeep and Ram vehicles produced in the United States, was arrested this week in Italy. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

+   Detroit Grand Prix organizers are working with Detroit city government officials in an effort to move the current IndyCar and IMSA races back to downtown from Belle Isle. More at Motorsport.com.
