 Shares of Nikola Corporation fell 8 percent on Thursday after Hindenburg Research shorted the stock and labeled the electric truck maker a “fraud” in a scathing report. More at Reuters.’

 Daimler AG risks a sales ban of its cars in Germany after losing its second patent case over mobile technology in three weeks, this time against Japan’s Sharp Corporation. More at The Detroit News. 

+   As part of its teaser campaign for the Z Proto to be fully revealed on September 15, Nissan confirmed via YouTube that it will boast a true manual transmission. More at Autoblog.

+   Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel will leave the Ferrari Formula 1 team and join the Racing Point operation, which will be rebranded as Aston Martin next year. More at CNN Sports. 

+   Maserati has unveiled its fastest car yet, the 202-mph MC20, which sports a carbon-fiber chassis and a  3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 good for 621 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque. More at The Drive.

+   Prices of the just-introduced 2021 Lucid Air, boasting a range of 500+ miles,  will start below $80,000, while a special Dream launch edition will be priced at $169,000. More at Car and Driver. 

 Seven-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, who retires from NASCAR at the end of this season, has signed a two-year deal to drive IndyCars for Chip Ganassi Racing. More at NBC Sports. 

 Pre-war American Classics and vintage Indy cars were the big sellers at the RM Auctions Auburn sale, which grossed $17.6 million at a 91 percent sell-through rate. More at Classic Cars.com Journal. 

 NASCAR plants to convert Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California from a 2.0-mile superspeedway to a half-mile paved short track in time for the 2022 season. More at Racer. 

+   While the visible changes will be few, enhanced Super Cruise and other significant technical advances will be available in the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 for 2021. More at CNET Roadshow. 

 NASCAR Cup driver Bubba Wallace has informed Richard Petty Motorsports that he will not return to the team for the 2021 season, but his new ride is yet to be announced. More at USA Today.
