 U.S. auto safety investigators have opened another probe into 30 million vehicles built by nearly two dozen auto brands with potentially defective Takata air bag inflators. More at Reuters. 

+   General Motors chairman and chief executive Mary Barra says the automaker is planning “substantial shifts” in its supply chain, due in part to the microchip shortage. More at The Detroit News. 

 A 1979 Porsche 928 used in the 1983 comedy Risky Business starring Tom Cruise sold for $1.98 million to an undisclosed buyer at the Barrett-Jackson Houston auction. More at Road & Track.

 The NTT IndyCar Series has announced its 17-event 2022 schedule, which opens on February 27 at St. Petersburg and concludes at Laguna Seca on September 11. More at ESPN. 

+   Jennifer Homendy, head of the National Transportation Safety Board, says Tesla needs to address basic safety issues before expanding its self-driving vehicle features.  More at Autoblog. 

  Car buyers are crying foul as some Ford dealers are reportedly adding thousands of dollars in price markups to existing pre-orders for the hot-selling Bronco sport utility. More at Car and Driver. 

 Reservations for the Debut Edition of the Cadillac Lyriq all-electric SUV reportedly sold out in minutes, but the company intends to take $100 deposits again next summer. More at The Drive. 

+   In an interview on The News With Shepard Smith on CNBC, mega-car collector Jay Leno repeated his bullish position on electric vehicles, saying EVs “are here to stay.” More at CNBC.

+   NASCAR has released a computer simulation to show fans what the quarter-mile oval in the Los Angeles Coliseum will look like when the Cup series races there in 2022. More at Fox Sports. 

+   Mecum Auctions reported an 86 percent sell-through rate and sales of $36.8 million from its recent Dallas Collector Car Auction, with three Ford products in the top 10. More at ClassicCars.com Journal.
