  Speaking in Munich, Volkswagen chief executive Herbert Diess said autonomous cars, not electric vehicles, will be the “real gamechanger” for the automobile industry. More at Reuters. 

+   Stellantis announced it will acquire a Houston, Texas-based auto-finance company for $285 million in cash to provide loans and leases to customers through its dealers. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

 Tesla temporarily halted some operations at its Shanghai factory last month, mainly for the Model Y, as the global shortage of semiconductors hit the electric car maker. More at Autoblog. 

 StarCom Racing, which fields the No. 00 Chevrolet with Quin Houff in the NASCAR Cup Series, has sold its charter, sources say, and the buyer is rumored to be Spire Motorsports. More at Jayski. 

+   The Morgan Motor Company confirms that it has a new 3-wheeled vehicle in development and has shared photos of the car in camouflage during durability testing. More at ClassicCars.com Journal. 

 The ultra-luxury Mercedes-Maybach brand has unveiled a new EQS SUV concept that the automaker says is very close to the eventual production version due next year. More at CNET Roadshow. 

 The Italian government has submitted a request to the European Union to exempt its Lamborghini and Ferrari brands from the phase-out of internal combustion engines by 2035. More at The Drive. 

  Famed English sports car maker AC Cars will produce an all-electric version of the early ’60s AC Ace RS in a production run of 37 cars with a starting price of $179,000. More at Road & Track.

 A.J. Foyt Racing will field a third entry at the IndyCar Series season finale at Long Beach, to be driven by California native Charlie Kimball with Norvo Nordisk backing. More at Racer.

  1. Looks like the Italians have their heads on straight. No need to go all electric, there’s still plenty of room for ICE engines, even if they are in million dollar supercars. Now if everybody else would get their heads out of their rears and and realize not everybody wants or needs a total electric vehicle, we might see some sense come out of the automakers and government. No, forget that, they are determined to force them on us, no matter what we say…
