 +   Volkswagen plans to cut up to 4,000 jobs in its German plants by offering early or partial retirement to older employees, a move that could cost hundreds of millions in the short term. More at Reuters. 

+   The short-seller firm Hindenburg Research has released a scathing report on Lordstown Motors, accusing the electric truck startup of fabricating its vehicle orders. More at TechCrunch.  

 With the retirement of Edsel Ford II, great-grandson of Henry Ford, two great-great-grandchildren, Henry Ford III and Alexandra Ford English, will join the Ford Motor Co. board. More at The Detroit News. 

+   Beloved Formula 1 broadcaster Murray Walker, who announced Grand Prix events for the BBC and then ITV in Great Britain for decades, has passed away at the age of 97. More at BBC Sport. 

 Nissan joins the growing ranks of automakers offering small-displacement three-cylinder engines in the USA with a turbocharged 1.5-liter three for the Rogue crossover. More at Car and Driver. 

 Authorities in Santa Clarita Valley, California raided four four locations in the Los Angeles area, arresting 19 people and recovering some 250 stolen catalytic converters. More at The Drive. 

 Toyota has prepared a detailed questionnaire for potential buyers of the GR Super Sport, its new 986-hp hypercar, which will be produced in a run of only 20 vehicles. More at Autoblog. 

+   Featured attractions at the RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island auction on May 22 will include a rare 1929 Duesenberg J with a disappearing-top torpedo body by Murphy. More at Sports Car Digest. 

 General Motors president Mark Reuss says the automaker is committed to keeping its global headquarters at Detroit’s Renaissance Center, which it purchased in 1996. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

+   NASCAR has recruited Eric Ryan, most recently the director of corporate  communications at Nike, to serve as its new vice president of communications. More at Jayski.

  1. Good that ‘the General’ is stickin’ to the Renaissance Center. I have never been to Detroit, but used to listen to a Detroit AM radio station every night in the late 60’s sitting in Dad’s 68 Cutlass. And how good was that? MoTown sockin’ it to ya!!! Love the historic sections of this blog… Cheers.
