 General Motors sales in China saw double-digit year-on-year growth in April with its two local venture partners, SAIC and SGMW, following a drop in the first three months. More at Reuters. 

+   A gang of high school-aged car thieves, the oldest 19, allegedly stole 46 new vehicles worth $1.1 million from a string of car dealerships in North Carolina. More at Motor Trend.

+   The COVID-19 crisis may trigger a shift away from public transportation and toward renewed interest in private auto ownership, according to a survey from Capgemini. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

+   McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown believes the reluctance of the big teams to agree to significant changes in Formula 1 threatens the overall future of the sport. More at Racer. 

 The share price of Tesla fell dramatically after CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the price was too high, a possible violation of his with deal with federal regulators. More at Car and Driver. 

+   Alexandra Ford English, a rising Ford executive and the daughter of Executive Chairman Bill Ford, has joined the board of directors of electric vehicle maker Rivian. More at The Detroit News. 

 According to a report from Edmunds, more than a quarter of the new vehicle financing deals in April included zero-percent loan terms, the most since 2004. More at The Drive.

 In line with the cancellation of Monterey Car Week events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, RM Sotheby’s has switched its Monterey auction to online only. More at Classic Cars.com Journal.

The Carlin-Chevrolet team is preparing to run a Formula 2 driver in the NTT IndyCar Series in the event that U.S. open-wheel racing resumes before the European scene. More at Motorsport.com.

    • I’ve never been a fan of public transport. Last public transport I rode was a school bus, and that was bad enough. Who wants to sit in somebody else’s mess? Not me.

    • I’ve heard there is a thin line between genius and insanity, Elon may be slipping over that line as many genius’ end up doing…..
