+   Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer has given the green light to the state’s auto plants to restart production on Monday, May 11, a week earlier than planned. More at The Detroit News. 

 Harley-Davidson Inc. has named turnaround specialist Jochen Zeitz, former head at Puma and a Harley board member since 2007, to become chief executive officer. More at Reuters.

 The share price of Carvana tumbled by double digits when the national used-car retail chain posted a first quarter loss of $183.6 million, a shortfall of $1.18 per share. More at CNBC.

+   A full-time factory McLaren effort in sports car racing for IMSA and the WEC under the new LMDh regulations is under consideration by the team’s CEO, Zak Brown. More at Racer. 

+   BorgWarner’s tornado-damaged plant near Seneca, South Carolina, which makes transfer cases for Ram, Jeep, Ford, and Toyota, is now up and running again. More at the Detroit Free Press.

+   Due to the General Motors strike and the COVID-19 outbreak, production of the 2020 Corvette may be limited to just 2,700 units, making it one of the rarest Corvettes in history. More at Autoblog. 

+   The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) released a video of a 2019 Jeep Wrangler tipping over in crash testing, though the vehicle received a passing score  overall. More at Car and Driver.

 The National Hot Rod Association has now canceled its drag racing events for June and July and issued a revised calendar for an 18-race season beginning in August. More at ESPN. 

+   Rental car giant Hertz is making last-minute maneuvers in a bid to avoid Chapter 11 bankruptcy amid an unprecedented slowdown in travel spending during the pandemic. More at USA Today. .
