Chevrolet Gen 5 V8 multimedia extravaganza!

Here’s a bonus feature to MCG’s coverage of the Chevrolet Gen 5/LT1 V8 unveiling, with cool videos and a hig-res cutaway rendering by David Kimble.

Just in case you haven’t read MCG’s in-depth technical feature on the Gen 5/LT1 V8 with tons of photos, you can find it here.

In this companion piece, we’re following up with some fun and useful multimedia materials that will help familiarize one and all with Chevy’s latest V8. GM did a fine job producing this stuff and it’s too good not to share.

First, here’s a really neat computer animation that shows a new LT1 Chevy V8 assembling itself in Gumby-esque stop-motion style. Experienced LS technicians will notice some differences and similarities with previous Gen III and Gen IV engines.

Next, here’s a video with clear, simple explanations of three of the important technologies employed in the Gen 5/LT1 Chevy:

+   Direct Injection

+   Active Fuel Management aka displacement on demand

+   Continuously Variable Valve Timing aka CVVT

Finally, here’s a big, high-resolution cutaway painting of the LT1 V8 by famed technical artist David Kimble. Click once on the image to expand it; click again to enlarge to full size.
