+   Driven by strong truck and SUV demand, U.S. new vehicle sales jumped 6 percent in March, as General Motors led the Detroit Three with a 15.7 percent increase. More at USA Today. 

 German carmakers BMW and Daimler are under pressure to shift their production of SUVs outside the U.S. as a result of Washington’s growing trade tensions with China. More at Reuters. 

 The next-gen Ford Focus hatchback due in 2020 will reportedly boast more than 400 horsepower from its 2.3-liter turbo four and a 48-volt mild hybrid system. More at Motor Trend. 

+   The Haas F1 team, America’s lone Grand Prix operation, has revamped its pit crew assignments following two botched pit stops at the season opener in Melbourne. More at ESPN. 

 Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt has set aside the agency’s 50 mpg corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) targets for 2022 through 2025. More at CNET Roadshow. 

+   As previously reported, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will spin off its Magneti Marelli electronics subsidiary to its shareholders via a Milan stock listing. More at Business Insider. 

+   Demand for new diesel cars in Britain plunged by more than a third in March, usually the top selling month of the year, pushing down total registrations by 16 percent. More at Automotive News Europe. 

+   Despite rising truck/SUV sales and speculation that General Motors could cut two sedan models, the automaker has reaffirmed its commitment to passenger cars. More at The Detroit News. 

+   At the direction of the executive board, the Hostetler’s Hudson Museum collection will be liquidated in a special one-day auction at the museum on Saturday, August 4. More at Hemmings Daily. 

+   Five weeks before a wrongful death lawsuit was set to go to trial, attorneys for NASCAR star Tony Stewart and the family of Kevin Ward Jr. have notified the judge of a settlement. More at Racer.

  1. Many insist that 50% of new cars will be electric by 2025, yet buyers want trucks. None of which are electric. I don’t know how you reconcile that, but I’m betting that personal vehicles remain gasoline powered while fleets of autonomous electric Ubers roam the cities.

    That’s a striking group of Hudson up top. Wish I had Silicon Valley money.
