+   Ford will triple the number of models in its product lineup to 23 vehicles by 2023, despite plans by the automaker to cut passenger cars from its portfolio. More at The Detroit News. 

+   Swiss authorities have halted registrations of some diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz Vito vans and Porsche Macan and Cayenne SUVs due to emissions issues. More at Automotive News Europe. 

 Spy photographers have captured interior and exterior shots of a 2019 BMW 3 Series station wagon testing in camouflage wrap on public highways in Germany. More at Motor Trend. 

+   Carlos Sainz has signed a multi-year deal with the McLaren Formula 1 team to replace Fernando Alonso, who announced his departure earlier in the week. More at BBC Sport. 

+   General Motors has filed three new patent applications with drawings that suggest the mid-engine C8 Corvette could feature active aero side skirts, ductwork, and spoilers. More at Autoblog. 

 The Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Pacifica minivans earned Top Safety Picks in crash tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but the Toyota Sienna “stumbled.” More at the Detroit Free Press. 

+   In advance of this weekend’s Woodward Dream Cruise, Ford unveiled its latest not-for-street use Cobra Jet Mustang factory drag racer with a list price of $130,000. More at Automobile. 

 General Motors and Shell have partnered to provide an embedded, in-dash function that will allow drivers to pay directly for gasoline at fuel stations across the United States. More at MLive.

+   Working in partnership with the American Bugatti Club, the 2018 Lime Rock Park Historic Festival on Labor Day weekend will boast a record number of vintage Bugattis. More at Hemmings Daily. 

+   Shelley Unser, the ex-wife of two-time Indy 500 winner Al Unser Jr. and a popular personality in the CART series and related charities, has passed away following a 10-month illness. More at Racer.
