+   Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will reopen its Mack Avenue II plant in Detroit, which has been idle since 2012, to manufacture a new Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2021. More at The Detroit News. 

 Volkswagen will introduce its final generation of vehicles using fossil-fuel engine technology in 2026, says the company’s chief strategist Michael Jost. More at NBC News. 

 While the Detroit manufacturers shift from cars to crossovers and SUVs, Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz says its U.S. lineup will be dominated by sedans. More at Motor Trend.

 The official FIA investigation of Charles Leclerc’s crash at the Belgian Grand Prix has concluded that his Sauber’s halo device prevented a potential head injury. More at Motorsport.com. 

 Opel and its sibling brand Vauxhall, now owned by French automaker PSA Group, will start producing full-electric versions of the Mokka X SUV and Vivaro van in 2020. More at Automotive News Europe. 

 As Ford and Volkswagen continue their partnership talks, the German carmaker has proposed building VW products in under-utilized Ford plants in the United States. More at USA Today. 

+   The former General Motors plant in Wilmington, Delaware, which opened in 1946 and most recently produced the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky, will now be demolished. More at Hemmings Daily. 

+   Dick LaHaie, the NHRA  nitro racer and Hall-of Famer who won the 1987 Top Fuel title as a driver and four more championships as a crew chief, has passed away at 79. More at Speed Sport.

 The McLaren IndyCar entry in next year’s Indianapolis 500 with driver Fernando Alonso will use Chevrolet engines, the team and automaker announced. More at the Indianapolis Star.
