+   Shrinking passenger car sales are intensifying the critical and hyper-competitive light truck battle among the Detroit Three manufacturers, with Ford still holding an edge. More at The Detroit News. 

 According to the 2019 Cars.com American-Made Index based on contribution to the U.S. economy, the Jeep Cherokee ranks first, followed by several Hondas and the Chevy Corvette. More at Cars.com.

 Mitsubishi may revive the high-performance Lancer Evolution bloodline with a next-generation Evolution XI powered by a 2.0-liter turbo four from partner Renault. More at The Drive. 

 McLaren Formula 1 team principal Andreas Seidl says it is “pretty difficult to imagine” any new carmakers entering the series due to the large investment required. More at Motorsport.com. 

 At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Ford unveiled the GT Mark II, a track-only model with 700 hp to be built in a run of 45 cars and priced at $1.2 million. More at Car and Driver. 

 Proterra Inc, the U.S. electric bus manufacturer whose investors include Daimler and BMW, has hired investment banks to prepare for an initial public offering (IPO). More at Autoblog. 

 In an effort to revive its flagging Maserati brand, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has recruited Davide Grasso, former CEO of Nike’s Converse brand, as chief operating officer. More at Automotive News Europe. 

+  The Academy of Art University in San Francisco has consigned another group of 22 cars from its collection to the Mecum Monterey auction on August 15-17. More at Classic Cars.com Journal. 

Some 1,200 developers at BMW and Daimler will join forces in a non-exclusive partnership to work on automated driving technology, the companies announced. More at Reuters.
