 Renault CEO Thierry Bollore said there is no progress between the French automaker and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, two weeks after the collapse of merger talks. More at Automotive News Europe.

+  Storied British carmaker Bentley, now owned by Volkswagen AG, announced that all its cars and SUVS will be hybrids by 2023, and a full electric will be rolled out in 2025. More at CNET Roadshow. 

+   Formula 1 star Max Verstappen says he is keen to race at Le Mans alongside his father Jos Verstoppen, and views Aston Martin’s 2021 entry as a potential opportunity. More at Racer. 

 Ford announced that the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 will be rated at 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful road-legal Ford ever. More at Motor Trend. 

 In a move to shore up its partnership with Nissan, French automaker Renault says it will back a move by Nissan to give Renault a seat on Nissan’s governing board. More at Reuters. 

 A 1979 Pontiac Trans-Am Bandit replica from the estate of Smokey and the Bandit star Burt Reynolds sold for $317,500, blowing past pre-auction price estimates. More at Autoblog. 

 The last 1953 Corvette built, which last traded hands for $533,500 in 2016, will be among the featured attractions at the Mecum Monterey sale in on August 15-17. More at Hemmings Daily. 

+   AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka says the proposed replacement for the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is not ready for passage. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

 This weekend’s NASCAR race at Sonoma Raceway will be the final event for hall-of-famer Darrell Waltrip at Fox Sports, which has no plans to replace him in the broadcast booth. More at Jayski.
