+   Car dealers are gearing up for more business as Saudi Arabia, the sole remaining country on earth that prohibited female drivers, has finally lifted its ban. More at The Detroit News.  

+   Chief engineer Tetsuya Tada says the 2019 Toyota Supra will employ unique suspension and calibrations to provide a different driving experience from its BMW Z4 platform-mate. More at Motor Trend. 

 British engineering firm Cosworth has opened a new $50 million production facility in Shelby Township, Michigan, just north of Detroit, with 60,000 square feet and 130 workers. More at Crain’s Detroit Business. 

+   Sprint-car racer Jason Johnson, winner of the Knoxville Nationals in 2016, was fatally injured in a World of Outlaws feature at Beaver Dam Raceway in Wisconsin. More at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. 

+   Carlos Ghosn, chairman and CEO of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, says there is “zero” chance that Renault will absorb partners Nissan and Mitsbubishi. More at Reuters.

+   The European Union will respond in kind to any U.S. move to raise tariffs on cars made within the group, says EU Commission Vice President Jyrki Katainen. More at Automotive News Europe. 

 Romain Dumas, driving Volkswagen’s ID R all-electric racer, set an all-time record at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, shattering the previous mark of Sébastien Loeb in a Peugeot. More at The Verge. 

 Wrestler John Cena and Ford Motor Co. have settled a lawsuit for alleged breach of contract when he sold his 2017 Ford GT earlier than permitted under the purchase agreement. More at MLive. 

 A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, chassis 3413GT, is expected to fetch more than $45 million when it crosses the block at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale on August 24-25. More at Hemmings Daily. 

+   Toyota has unveiled the third-generation update of the Century, its ultra-luxury sedan for Japanese royalty and heads of state, with a production target of 50 units per month. More at Autoblog. 

+   Road America president George Bruggentheis announced a new three-year agreement that will ensure an IndyCar Series race at the Wisconsin road course through 2021. More at Racer.

  1. Very sad about Jason Johnson, he was a long time regular here in Oz racing both World Series and many of the bigger shows over our summer. I have met him on a few occasions and he seemed a really nice bloke,, and was a very good steerer too! RIP
