 The base Volkswagen Golf will reportedly be discontinued in the United States at the end of the current product cycle, though the GTI and Golf I are expected to continue. More at Motor Trend.

+  As expected, the city of Detroit has acquired 215 acres of land for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to expand its Jefferson North and Mack Ave facilities to assemble Jeeps. More at The Detroit News. 

 Indy Lights 2017 champion Kyle Kaiser has been confirmed as the driver of the second Juncos Racing IndyCar Series entry starting at this May’s Indianapolis 500. More at Motorsport.com. 

+   The highly anticipated Ford Ranger intermediate pickup is off to a slow start in sales so far at only 15,169 units through April, trailing Toyota, Nissan, and Chevrolet. More at Car and Driver.

 A new study conducted for the Australian government determined that driving without sufficient sleep is as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol. More at The Drive. 

+  Triumph has unveiled the Rocket 3 TFC, powered by a 2.5-liter, three-cylinder engine with 168 horsepower, creating the company’s most powerful motorcycle in history. More at Autoblog.

+   General Motors is recalling more than 368,000 Chevrolet and GMC pickups and other trucks worldwide after 19 reports of fires caused by engine block heater cords. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

 Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto says Mercedes currently has a “slightly better” Formula 1 car, but insists the gap between the two squads is not representative. More at Autosport.
