+   Shares in Tesla Inc. spiked 17 percent when the electric carmaker surprised analysts by delivering on CEO Elon Musk’s promise of a profit in the third quarter, More at Reuters. 

+   Ford’s first mass-market electric vehicle, the Mustang-inspired crossover unofficially named the Mach E and boasting a range of 300+ miles, will debut on November 17. More at The Drive. 

 Jeffery Pietrzyk, an ex-aide to United Auto Workers vice president and former General Motors board member Joe Ashton, pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges.  More at the Detroit Free Press. 

+   Apple Computer co-founder Steve Wozniak, a one-time proponent of self-driving cars, now says he doubts that fully autonomous vehicles will appear in his lifetime. More at CNBC. 

 The 2020 RM Sotheby’s Paris auction during Retromobile week will feature three classic Delahayes and a hoard of parts from the collection of the late Jacques Dayez. More at Classic Cars.com Journal. 

 The two Renault Formula 1 entries were disqualified and their finishes were disallowed following the Japanese Grand Prix after a protest by the Racing Point team. More at Racer.
