Today’s Headlines: 

 Upstart electric truck maker Rivian has landed an order with Amazon to supply the e-commerce giant with 100,000 delivery vans by 2024, said Amazon boss Jeff Bezos. More at CNBC.

+   BMW plans to cut as many as 6,000 jobs in Germany by 2022, mainly at is Munich headquarters, as part of a cost-cutting program, according to Manager Magazin. More at Automotive News Europe. 

 President Donald Trump has revoked the state of California’s authority to set its own vehicle emission standards, defying the auto industry and launching a long legal battle. More at CNN. 

 Scott Atherton, who has served as president of IMSA since 2013, will retire from the sports car sanctioning body at the end of the year, but will remain on the board. More at Autoweek. 

+   “Some progress” has been made in talks between the striking United Auto Workers and General Motors, UAW Vice President Terry Ditte reported to local union leaders. More at The Detroit News. 

 Superior Industries, a leading supplier of aluminum wheels, is eliminating 250 jobs at its Fayetteville, Arkansas plant as production is shifted away from the USA. More at Arkansas Online. 

+   Tesla won the highest safety honor from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the first time with the Tesla 3, earning the 2019 Top Safety Pick+ award. More at USA Today. 

 Luigi Colani, the prolific automotive and industrial designer noted for his outside-the-box concept vehicles, has passed away at 91 in Karlsruhe, Germany. More at Car Design News. 

+   The Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas auction on October 3-5 will feature another 20 vehicles from the private Vault Collection, including a number of high-end designer street rods. More at Classic Cars.com Journal. 

 The Haas Formula 1 team will continue with drivers Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen in 2020, silencing reports that Nico Hulkenberg would find a seat there. More at Motorsport.com.

  1. I’m glad Trump rolled back CA’s ability to have different emissions standards than the rest of the country. It should have never had that authority to begin with. Now automakers won’t have to have a CA compliant vehicle and one for the other 49 states. CA wants to act like it’s it’s own country, about time they got brought down a notch.

    • But it seems the automakers are siding with California, last I heard. Seems they would rather have the California car as THE 50 state car. To be challenged by the Cal. standards.
      It would force them to reduce emissions, to the levels the Obama administration set, instead of becoming deregulated like 45 wants to do with everything. The guy’s nuts, and we haven’t got to the fuel economy.
