 The 2019 Volvo S60 sedan is now officially in production at the carmaker’s new 2.3 million square-foot, $1.1 billion assembly plant in Berkeley County, South Carolina. More at Motor Trend. 

+   Federal investigators are probing United Auto Workers expenditures of almost $1 million in union funds on liquor, food, and golf in Palm Springs, California. More at The Detroit News. 

+   Aston Martin plans to expand its hypercar range with a Valkyrie-based coupe with the code name 003 that will debut in late 2021 with production limited to 500 units. More at Automotive News Europe.

+   NASCAR announced it has promoted chief operating officer Steve Phelps to president effective Oct. 1, as current president Brent Dewar takes an advisory role. More at The Charlotte Observer. 

+   The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has awarded the Tesla Model 3 electric sedan its top five-star crash rating in all the agency’s test categories. More at The Drive. 

+   Neil Schloss, who helped Ford Motor Co. avoid bankruptcy during the Great Recession and became CFO of the automaker’s mobility arm, will retire in December. More at Crain’s Detroit Business. 

+   In advance of the Paris Motor Show, Peugeot unveiled the E-Legend Concept, a fully electric experimental coupe that supports both autonomous and human driving. More at Autoblog. 

+   According to a study from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, car insurance premiums have risen sharply in recent years, increasing 33 percent between 2010 and 2016. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

+   The annual RM Auctions Hershey, Pennsylvania sale on October 11-12 will feature the collections of Richard L. Burdick and Lloyd Needham. More at Classic Cars.com Journal. 

+   Carlin Racing plans to add a third entry in the 2019 IndyCar Series alongside current drivers Max Chilton and Charlie Kimball, and will also field a two-car Indy Lights team. More at Motorsport.com.

    • Often wondered the samw thing. Same goes for health insurance commercials, too. Definitely need regulation for both industries. There needs to be a complete ban on medical insurance companies paying millions to put their names on sports arenas, too..
