Saturday morning CarTune: Voodoo Cadillac

From straight out of North Carolina comes Southern Culture on the Skids with this morning’s CarTune, “Voodoo Cadillac.”

Southern Culture on the Skids, known to their army of fans as SCOTS, was formed in Chapel Hill, NC in 1983, and they play straight-up rock and roll with a rockabilly sensibility. The band’s long-time lineup consists of guitarist Rick Miller, Mary Huff on bass, and Dave Hartman on drums. According to the band’s Wikipedia entry, “SCOTS’ music is generally very upbeat, as they usually write and perform songs about dancing, sex, and fried chicken.” Very well, then.

But just for the record, cars are part of their repertoire as well. The group’s big national breakout album on Geffen Records in 1995 was entitled Dirt Track Date, and one of their better-known tunes is “Voodoo Cadillac.” The video performance below was recorded in Chapel Hill on November 11, 2004. Southern Culture always has a good time wherever they play, and they make sure the audience does, too. Check ’em out.
