Sins of Steel 2014

Chevrolet CoachMCG checks in at one of the Motor City’s top retro-rod events, Sins of Steel. Here’s a quick review and a big photo gallery.

So many car events, so little time. MCG had multiple stops to make this day, but he carved out an hour or two for Sins of Steel, the awesome retro-rodding meet in little Davisburg, Michigan, northwest of Detroit. Attractions included live music, minibike races, and a pin-up contest, but MCG was laser-focused on the cars, naturally. From among a big turnout of cars this year, a few of his favorites included:

+   A 1949 Ford convertible in primer gray with frenched headlamps, Lancer wheelcovers, and perfect ’50s taildragger stance.

+   An early ’20s Ford Model T turtle-deck roadster, stripped down to running weight with its fenders and running boards removed.

+   A 1959 Chevrolet El Camino, lowered and louvered, with spotlights and silver lacquer.

+   An equally sweet 1959 Ford Ranchero in mint green and white, providing the perfect contrast to the El Camino.

You’ll find all these great rods and customs and more in the gallery below.

  1. seeing all those beauties I can’t deny I still fancy the type and style of the sixties – thanks a heap for making such a brilliant line up – well done

  2. The T roadster is mine and it is far from stock. It is sitting on a modified 1931 Model A chassis and drivetrain. Glad it fooled ya though!

  3. ARe yo sure those are Lancer hubcaps? They look like Olds Fiesta spinner copies to me. I thought Lancers had four bars on them, no three. Oh, well.

    • We might be talking about two different Fords. The primer gray convertible has four-bar Lancer-style caps. The black club coupe has Olds Fiesta covers.

  4. Glad you liked the Chief..If I’d known someone was going to take a pic, I’d washed the bike!
