Video: Building Speed at Roush Yates Racing Engines

Roush-Yates RacingHere’s a rare look behind the locked doors of one of the most advanced engine facilities in the world, Roush Yates Racing Engines.

Produced by Ford Racing, this little two-minute video will be fascinating for gearheads of all kinds. Casual enthusiasts will be awed by the sheer scale of a current NASCAR engine shop. It’s enormous, with acres of tools and inventory. As company president Doug Yates notes here, there are 200 employees at Roush Yates, all with one goal: building winning racing engines for teams including Roush Fenway Racing, Penske Racing, and Richard Petty Motorsports.

Meanwhile, the hardcore engine people will be taking in the details, carefully eyeballing the incredible array of resources. They’ll be drooling over the optical comparators, camshaft profile analyzers, multi-axis CNC machining centers, DTS dynos, the NASA clean-room assembly standards. The shop is the equal of any in the world, up to and including Formula One. As Yates says, “When it comes to building engines, there is no room for error.”  The Roush Yates facility is simply a reflection of that cold, incontrovertible fact. Truly, it’s about the pursuit of perfection. Enjoy the video.

  1. This operation will turn out to be very useful once they put that Penske boy in charge of the program.
