Video: NHRA Wild Rides of 2022

Tighten up your belts. It’s time for the 2022 edition of NHRA WIld Rides, featuring the most spectacular crashes and explosions of the season.

It’s a tradition at the National Hot Rod Association, drag racing’s premier sanctioning body: Each year the video production team puts together another anthology of the most spectacular crashes and blowups of the national event season. We’re relieved to report that no drivers were injured in the incidents recorded here. However, the same cannot be said for the millions of dollars worth of equipment that got bent up or exploded to bits once again this year. That hardware is now history.

This year’s major mishaps included a huge wheelstand and  near-blowover for eight-time Top Fuel champion Tony Schumacher, catastrophic engine explosions for dragster pilots Clay Millican, Doug Kalitta, and Leah Pruett, and body-launching blowups by Funny Car racers John Force, Bob Tasca, and Ron Capps. Drag racing fans regard their sport as the most extreme form of mechanical mayhem there is in the world of auto racing, and they’re not wrong. Video below.
