Incredible in-car video from the Isle of Man

Isle of ManCar biz people are calling this new clip—one lap of the 2014 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy circuit—the most amazing in-car video ever produced. Watch this.

Imagine flying down a narrow, twisting two-lane road between stone walls and hedge rows at 150 mph. No runoff areas, no Armco barriers, just you and a U.S.-spec, production Subaru WRX STI with 305 hp and a few careful performance tweaks.

2015 Subaru Tom Higgins

The pilot is British rally champion Mark Higgins, and for added interest, he’s been wired for breathing rate, blood pressure, and skin temperature, with the data on display across the top of the screen. Track position, g meter, and vehicle speed are also indicated, and have tales of their own to tell on this trip. There’s a lot of info to study on this thoughtfully produced video.

Cutting directly to the punch line, Higgins set a new course record of 19 minutes, 26 seconds on the 37.3 mile circuit—an average of 117.5 mph, shaving a full half-minute from his own previous record. The dry numbers don’t really tell the story of the achievement, but the video does. Watch this.

  1. Great piece of footage. Too dangerous for me!! Next time get rid of the inside mirror, it really does block the view.

  2. Wow! That was fast! I hope there was a high-def camera placed a little better getting higher quality video. That would be worth paying to see.
