Preview: EyesOn Design 2018

Mark your calendar for next Sunday, June 17. It’s time for one of America’s great car shows and a Father’s Day tradition: the EyesOn Design Automotive Exhibition. From the media preview earlier this week, here’s our full report.

This coming Sunday is Father’s Day, of course, and time for a Detroit gearhead  institution: the EyesOn Design Automotive Design Exhibition—hosted, as usual, at the historic Edsel and Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Point Shores. This year’s show, which will once again benefit the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, will feature a carefully selected gathering of around 360 cars, trucks, and motorcycles.

Unlike most all annual car shows, EyesOn Design is fresh every year as the organizers create another new slate of intriguing vehicle categories, each one focused on automotive design. This year’s central theme is “Design Inspiration & Influences.” Here’s a small sample of the categories this year:

+   Classic Era Designs

The Jet Age: Tailfins & Afterburners

+   Small Car Invasion

Outside the Box: Sculptural and Fuselage Forms

 Sheer European Luxury

+   Drag Racing & Muscular Forms: Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday

Those are just a few of the several dozen categories exploring the wide world of automotive design. Naturally, the vehicles will be the finest examples to be found in the Detroit area and across the country. It’s going to be another great show and naturally, we’ll have our usual full event coverage here at Mac’s Motor City Garage.  We hope to see you there.

EyesOn Design Automotive Design Exhibition; Sunday, June 17, 2016; Edsel and Eleanor Ford House, 1100 Lake Shore Road, Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan; 10AM to 4:30.

  1. Bill, look me up at Eyes, my ’51 Chevy Barris custom will be on display. I would enjoy meeting you. Keith Ashley

  2. Going to try and make it but the weather forecast is for a real scorcher in the 90’s. Not too friendly with my health issues!

  3. A family tradition and one of the highlights of my annual automotive calendar. One of the cars we’ll be bringing was actually found as a result of a post on Mac’s Motor City Garage!
