Video: See This Engine With a Clear Plastic Cylinder Running in Ultra-Slow Motion

Internal combustion is a beautiful thing, but we rarely get to see it with our own eyes. TRO Designs created an engine with a clear acrylic cylinder that allows us see the magic inside.

TRO Designs is headed by Teague O’Brien, a mechanical engineer with a passion for motorcycles and a talent for mechanical problem solving. Starting with the familiar Honda XR75 motorcycle engine, a 4-stroke, SOHC single produced in the 1970s, he designed a new cylinder jug from a solid block of clear acrylic plastic, which was manufactured by SuNPe, prototyping specialists in Guangdong Province, China.

Naturally, the project required a number of other special parts, including some slick,  trick piston rings, but long story short, the result is a running, working engine with a fully visible combustion cycle. At this point, we should just get out of the way and let you see the build process and the working engine operation, which was filmed with a Phantom High Speed camera at up to 33,000 fps. Watch this.
