Video: Great Scams and Hucksters in NASCAR History

Big-time motorsport has always attracted more than its share of shady operators. Here are a few who took their game to NASCAR.

Auto racing is a glamorous sport that a) celebrates life on the edge and b) requires truckloads of money. It’s only natural that the race biz would attract more than its share of fast talkers and sketchy deals. Even in Formula 1, where billionaires and heads of state roam the hosptitality area, major teams have been badly stung on a disappointingly regular basis, for example in the Rich Energy drink fiasco of 2019.

NASCAR is by no means impervious to these embarrassments—from kickbacks to Ponzi schemes, you name it. S1apSh0es, a YouTube channel with more than 25 million views and a dry sense of humor about the sport in general, has chronicled but a few of them in the clip below. We can think of a number more, and if you’re a serious NASCAR fan, we bet you can too. (Note: the channel has several more episodes on the subject.) Video follows.
